The method

Prepare. Present. Prevent.

Three simple moves that grow out of Dr. Breana Turner's research with Black women across generations — a repeatable way to lead every conversation about your health.

01

Prepare

Get ready before appointments — so nothing important is forgotten when you're in the room.

Write it down
Make notes in advance about what you want to cover.
Track how you feel
Document symptoms and changes over time.
Bring questions
Formulate the questions and concerns that matter most.
02

Present

Advocate in the room — share what's going on clearly, and leave with a plan you understand.

Share clearly
Describe your concerns and experiences to your provider.
Show confidence
Self-advocacy is a skill — and it can be practiced.
Ask for next steps
Get clarity on what happens after the visit.
03

Prevent

Stay ahead — reduce risk and keep up with the care that keeps you well.

Lower your risk
Mitigate risk factors for chronic disease.
Stay screened
Keep current on appropriate screenings and imaging.
Lift others
Healthier women build stronger families and communities.

Where it comes from

The 3 P's grow out of a multi-focus-group study of Black women's health, spanning Gen Z through Gen X.

The goal is to turn that research into practical, accessible tools any woman can use — and to train health professionals in reflective listening and non-deficit, culturally responsive communication.
